On March 11, 2022, WWE SmackDown viewers saw one of the scariest injuries occur. In a tag team match between the New Day and Sheamus and Ridge Holland, Big E took an overhead belly to belly suplex from Holland on the outside of the ring which saw the former WWE Champion land on his head, breaking his neck. Big E was taken out on a stretcher, and 13 months since, though he has thankfully recovered, he has yet to make an in ring comeback. That doesn't mean WWE isn't thinking about it though.According to WRKD Wrestling, who has broken many WWE stories, the company has a huge idea for a possible Big E return. On April 21st they tweeted, "Despite a loss to Gunther on #Smackdown, one long-term backstage pitch has seen Xavier Woods and a fully healed Big E and Kofi Kingston feuding with Imperium once the New Day are ready to return. The centerpiece for the feud would be Big E facing Gunther."

Will Big E Ever Wrestle Again?

After being a singles star and WWE Champion in 2021, Big E returned to the New Day in early 2022. The group has suffered without his charisma as Big E has made zero WWE appearances over the last year. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods did hold the NXT Tag Team Championships, but with the pair dealing with their own much less serious injuries, the New Day has fallen behind groups like The Usos and Judgment Day.

If Big E can go, New Day vs Imperium would be a perfect way to bring the trio back together. Even bigger, to have Big E's first feud seeing him going against the dominating Intercontinental Champion Gunther would show just how much faith WWE still has in Big E, whether he was to lose or be the man to finally topple Gunther.

Big E recently revealed that he feels perfectly healthy and has undergone a twelve-month test to examine how his neck his healing. He didn't speak about if the results showed that an in ring return is possible, but if this new is any indicator, then the results were promising.
