The WWE Women’s title, while not always being featured prominently has its roots dating back to 1984, when The Fabulous Moolah came Up North to work for Vince Sr. The title itself, like many aspects of the sport actually dates back to the 1956 and the NWA. The history of all the women’s championships in WWE is pretty sordid.

For instance, despite carrying the same name, The Raw and SmackDown Women’s titles carry their own separate lineage to the original women’s title that went defunct in 2010. The tag team titles which were unveiled in 2019 are actually the second iteration of these belts as well - they were introduced way back in 1983. Nevertheless, all the ladies' gold in WWE have had some unique designs over the years.

13 LayCool’s Title - Honorable Mention

LayCool Womens Champion

During The Ruthless Aggression Era, a pair of mean girls, Layla and Michelle McCool took over the division as LayCool. But with no tag team titles in sight and with their friendship unbreakable, they did the next best thing with the WWE Women’s Championship and split it down the middle, each lady carrying a piece of the gold. It was a very bizarre idea, but it did lead to Layla and Michelle doing some of the best work of their careers.

12 Moolah’s Title

Moolah's Title

From September 18, 1956, until July 23, 1984, only one woman ruled the roost as far as wrestling was conceded. Mary Lillian Ellison, The Fabulous Moolah.

While she did lose it a few times of the course of 28 years, the WWE story of holding the title for that long is the predominant one. So why not put your picture front and center on the strap. At that time Moolah was Women’s Wrestling and Women’s Wrestling, like it or not was Moolah.

11 Original WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles

The Glamour Girls Womens Tag Champions

In 1983, Velvet McIntyre and Princess Victoria came to the WWE as the defending NWA World Women’s Tag Team Champions. Of course, they were rechristened as the WWE. The most preeminent titleholders were The Glamour Girls.

Their feud with The Jumping Bomb Angels did captivate some of the diehard fans who had never seen anything like the Angels up to that point.

10 The WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles

Ronda Rousey And Shayna Baszler WWE Women's Tag Champs

Over thirty years since the original iteration of the women’s tag team titles were introduced, Bayley and Sasha Banks essentially willed the current version into existence. In 2019, The Boss And Hug Connection were able to win an Elimination Chamber to become the first ever tag champions of this lineage.

Currently held by Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler, the designs have remained unchanged for several years.

9 The NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles

Alba Fyre And Isla Dawn NXT Womens Tag Team Champions WWE

Introduced during a period of change in NXT, the women’s tag titles seemed destined to be the focal point of a new peak in the Women’s Evolution. But NXT 2.0 reverted the brand back to a developmental territory.

The title design is also just as generic, smaller than the men’s counterpart on a white leather instead of black.

8 The Golden Era Gold

Wendi Richter WWE Womens Champion

As the centerpiece of The Rock And Wrestling Connection, Wendi Richter was able to dethrone the near thirty-year reign of The Fabulous Moolah, she needed a title that didn’t have Moolah’s face on it! The most popular version is a colorful blue one.

7 The New Generation Title

Madusa Debuts On Nitro Cropped

After laying dormant for three years, the WWE resurrected the title when they signed Madusa. Rechristened Alundra Blayze, she would win this title after a grueling tournament and defend against the likes of Bull Nakano, Lelaini, Kai, and Bertha Faye; losing the gold to Nakano and Faye.

She of course decided it would be a great career move to dump this title in the trash on Nitro.

6 The Raw / SmackDown Titles

Becky Lynch At WrestleMania 35

Since being introduced by The Rock in 2013, the WWE has had a massive logo emblazoned world title for not just the world title, but the Universal, Raw, and Smackdown Women’s titles as well.

The two ladies belts look a little brighter emblazoned on white leather with red or blue backgrounds, depending on the brand.

5 Original NXT Women’s Title

Paige As NXT Champion in 2014

Debuting with Paige, for a few years the NXT Women’s title was the preeminent title in women’s wrestling. The belt design was simple, but effective.

It was small and dainty like a lot of the older Women’s titles were, but the jeweled sides helped to make the belt pop. The belt designed changed when Asuka took hold of it and it looked a little more like the men’s version.

4 New NXT

Tiffany Stratton as NXT Womens Champion

Once Asuka took over the NXT Women’s division way back in 2016, The Empress needed a new woman’s title and she got it. A smaller version of the men’s version but still bigger than the original title.

Several years later, this version got the all white upgrade that has become a staple of every Women’s division in wrestling, not just WWE. The WWE also recently added a rainbow palette to the metal on the gold to represent the 2.0 lineage.

3 The Attitude Era - The WWE Women’s Title

Trish Stratus As Womens Champion WWE

When the WWE resurrected the Women’s division from the trash Madusa left it in, it was a slow go at first, with mostly Sable, Jacqueline, and a few others trading it back and forth until Jacqueline had some great workers to help get even better.

Trish, Lita, Molly Holly, Jazz; they all vied for and won this coveted gold. Before it was swapped out in 2010, plenty of the Divas generation would hold it as well.

2 The Divas Title

Divas Champions history

There are some fans who might bemoan the design and the namesake of “The Divas Title,” but the unconventional design actually made for a gorgeous looking title belt.

1 The NXT UK Women’s Title

Meiko Satamura NXT UK Womens Champion

It’s a wonder that some of the best belt designs of the past decade or so are all now defunct. Both the men’s and women’s NXT world titles have a beautifully crafted coat of arms. The women’s title sat on white leather to help everything pop. It all helped to make the title seem prestigious, which considering the four ladies who held the title, it was.
