Fans of Good Ol' JR will be happy to hear that icon and Hall of Famer is staying in AEW. The legendary wrestling announcer Jim Ross has officially inked a new contract with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), as announced on the latest episode of Grilling JR podcast. Ross revealed that the new deal is not an extension of his current deal, but an entirely fresh contract with the company. He called it a quick and straightforward negotiation process.
According to reports, the veteran broadcaster's original contract had expired on February 14, prompting discussions for a renewal. Ross explained on the show that things came together quickly and the two sides worked promptly during negotiations. "It was probably the quickest and easiest negotiation I have ever done in my career of 50 years," he said. Ross added that Khan has always been a fan which helped his cause. He noted that the AEW President showed his appreciation to Ross' role as a broadcaster and committed more time to Ross with the new deal.
While speaking about the new role he's going to take on, he noted, “I assume it's going to be centered around the pay-per-views, we’re adding more pay-per-views." And, with AEW expanding the amount of pay-per-views they'll be offering, it makes sense to have Jim Ross a part of the new events. He explained:
I think we’re down for another year. That’s plenty. I’m happy with it. Tony Khan stepped up. Term wise, financial package wise, everything was to my liking. I was very blessed to be working with Tony on that deal. He wanted me signed. He got his man and I got my company. It all worked out real well.
Expect Ross To Have a More Limited Role in AEW Moving Forward
Having faced health challenges recently, Ross made a triumphant return to AEW television at the Revolution pay-per-view, where he called the final two matches of the show. His presence and commentary added to the significance of the event, which included Sting's retirement. As for how much his health issues will affect the amount of future work he can do, he said he remains committed to his role in AEW and expressed optimism about reaching a new agreement.
While the future of Ross's health remains a priority, the renewed contract ensures his continued involvement with AEW. His veteran experience will play a pivotal role in making those events memorable for fans.
