John Cena is one of the most successful WWE wrestlers ever. For years, he was the top star of WWE and carried the company banner to great success. However, in the past few years Cena has transitioned into Hollywood and thus, he rarely appears in WWE these days. Regardless, he makes an effort to make it for the company's biggest events and usually finds his way into marquee matches.

He is making a return to WWE on the June 27 episode of Raw. With rumors spreading that he is going to have a match at SummerSlam, let's have a look at his last 10 PPV matches and rank them from worst to best.
10 Team RAW Vs. Team SmackDown - Survivor Series 2017
At Survivor Series 2017, John Cena was part of the annual Team Raw vs. Team SmackDown 5-on-5 elimination match. He represented Team SmackDown alongside Bobby Roode, Shinsuke Nakamura, Shane McMahon and Randy Orton to take on Kurt Angle, Triple H, Finn Balor, Samoa Joe and Braun Strowman.
Despite the star power and potential dream matches, the match lacked in quality. Cena didn't have a very huge impact on the match as he only had one elimination, before he got eliminated by Kurt Angle. The match was mostly about Strowman, who eliminated 3 wrestlers, and was a survivor alongside Triple H.
9 W/ Bobby Lashley Vs. Kevin Owens & Elias - Super ShowDown
When WWE held its first PPV in Australia in 2018, they needed star power and thus, John Cena was a part of the show. Since most of the top stars were already in different storylines, Cena was booked in a tag team match, where he teamed up with Bobby Lashley to take on Kevin Owens & Elias.
This has to be one of Cena's most forgettable matches ever. We saw Cena only in the final minute of the match, where he performed his signature moves on Elias to pick up the win. Perhaps he didn't want to risk injuries, but it was still quite disappointing.
8 Vs. The Undertaker - WrestleMania 34
John Cena failed many times to gain a spot on the WrestleMania 34 card. Thus, he decided to call out The Undertaker and constantly challenged him for a match at the Grandest Stage of them All. But, to his disappointment, he didn't get an answer from The Phenom.

When everyone thought we aren't getting the match, 'Taker made a surprise return at 'Mania. The match was only 2 minutes and 45 seconds, which was a bit disappointing. But, the two still had some exciting action in that duration, and the match had some cool moments which compensated for the short length.
7 Vs. Triple H - Greatest Royal Rumble 2018
John Cena and Triple H had a great feud in the Ruthless Aggression Era. When WWE went to Saudi Arabia for their first-ever PPV in 2018, they decided to have another match between the two legends.
The match didn't have any build-up or tension, and both were past their peak and thus, the match was quite average. It wasn't bad, but it was quite forgettable. Cena won the match by hitting two AAs on Triple H.
6 WWE Universal Championship #1 Contender's Elimination Chamber Match - Elimination Chamber 2018
The 2018 Men's Elimination Chamber match was the first-ever chamber match with 7 participants. The participants were Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns, Finn Balor, Seth Rollins, The Miz, Elias and John Cena.
The bout was quite underwhelming by Chamber match standards. Strowman showcased his dominance in the match by eliminating everyone, before being eliminated by the eventual winner, Roman Reigns. Cena was the 3rd wrestler who got eliminated from the match.
5 Vs. Roman Reigns - No Mercy 2017
After John Cena took a backseat in the company, Roman Reigns was the one who became the top star of WWE. Due to their star power, it would be expected to have their match a big stage like WrestleMania, but the two clashed at No Mercy 2017 instead.
The build-up of the match was quite heated, especially the promo battle. The match was also good, but it wasn't something we hadn't seen before. It was a finisher fest, where Roman Reigns kicked out of 4 AAs, and eventually defeated Cena.
4 Vs. Roman Reigns - SummerSlam 2021
Almost 4 years after their first clash, Cena and Roman Reigns had a rematch, this time at a bigger stage, in the main event of SummerSlam 2021. It wasn't a face vs. face clash this time, as Roman Reigns was a heel heading into the match.

The match also had the stipulation that if Roman lost, he would have to leave WWE. The match took some time to get going, but from there on, it only got better and better. Once again, we saw Reigns kick out of multiple AAs. In the end, Reigns hit two Superman Punches and a Spear on Cena to win the match. Post-match, we saw the return of Brock Lesnar after more than a year, as he had an exciting face-off with Reigns.
3 Royal Rumble Match - Royal Rumble 2018
John Cena took part in the 2018 Royal Rumble match. Rusev and Finn Balor started the match and both had great performances. We saw many exciting moments during the match. This Rumble is considered to be one of the best Rumble matches ever.
The return of Rey Mysterio, and the debuts of Adam Cole and Andrade were some highlights. Cena entered the match at #20, and had a pretty good performance with 3 eliminations. He also made it to the final four, but was eliminated by the eventual winner Shinsuke Nakamura.
2 WWE Title Six Pack Challenge Match - Fastlane 2018
After having lost the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber matches, John Cena got another opportunity to secure a spot at WrestleMania at Fastlane 2018. The participants of the match other than Cena were Dolph Ziggler, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin and the WWE Champion, AJ Styles.
This was a very exciting multi-man match, with everyone getting their moments. We saw Cena execute the Attitude Adjustment on multiple wrestlers. In the end, Kevin Owens hit the pop-up powerbomb on Cena, before AJ Styles hit a Phenomenal Forearm on Owens to secure the win.
1 Vs. "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt - WrestleMania 36 Night Two
At WrestleMania 36, John Cena faced "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt in a unique "Firefly Fun House" Match. It was a cinematic match, which was quite common in 2020. It wasn't really a wrestling match, but it was highly entertaining.
The match was based on storytelling, with many references. Cena appeared as "The Prototype" and "Doctor of Thuganomics", and he also appeared as an nWo member. In the end, we saw The Fiend appear behind Cena, and he hit his finishers on Cena for the win.
